Our History
Ghana Electronics Servicing Technicians’ Association originally started in Kumasi around 1970s by one Nana Poku, a machine mechanic. He then became the accepted President and founder.
A branch was soon opened in Accra with the help and guidance of Mr. Raphael Ocloo (at Accra Technical Training Centre, ATTC, Tutor in the Electronic Department) and Emmanuel Jones popularly known as OMEGA.
The 1st accepted president came often from Kumasi (Ashanti Region) for meetings and used the name RADIO AND TV MECHANICS ASSOCIATION.
In the years 1984 and 1985, the seat came to Accra the capital, when Mr. Raphael Ocloo took over as President, many branches were opened across the country and changed its name to GHANA ELECTRONICS SERVICING TECHNICIANS’ ASSOCIATION (GESTA)
The president Mr. Raphael Ocloo left for Canada and then vice president Mr. Godson Amartey Hadjor saw to the Association’s inauguration in 1987.
In 1988, the Association was fully registered and got affiliated to Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) of TUC, National Board of Smale Scale Industries (NBSSI), Association of Small Industries (ASSI) among other organizations.
In a span, over thirty years, the Association had officially four elected presidents.
